Indexes listed on the Internet of the older archives of British data is growing, but you still need to know if those indexes are the relevant period to your research and when the records began and ended. Especially for these older records, which are vast and some have a very short time span, e.g "Hearth Tax" dates 1662-1689! Adding the older archives to the Internet search sites may take a while and there are many web sites. It is still necessary to know when they are available and this CD ROM will tell you where the originals can be seen and a short description of those archives. The charts and helpful hints in What Date Book 2 do all this.

The Timeline charts are especially useful for showing when an archive begins and ends. This CD ROM is a great help in identifying what you are looking at in the Helpful Hints section.

Pre 1851 research can feel more like archaeology that the quick research through the marvellous Government archives that are indexed. Unfortunately, the archives that come before the changes in the early 19th century may not include the same amount of information as the later documentation, so there are more opportunities to get stuck. It is important to gather as much accurate information as possible from the later archives that relate to your ancestor, as this information, no matter how small may lead you to earlier archives. This CD ROM gives advice on this and describes the changes at this time and what you should do to advance your research through these older records.

There is advice on How to Begin your family history research, and on the Internet with links to a list of useful sites, which are just a click away.
